Car Accident Caused Spine to Collapse

Khun Sakorn Nawarat, aged 67 from Suphan Buri Province, was in a car accident which left her in pain and short of breath. She received treatment at her local clinic and was given two injections which didn’t make her feel better. Her pain worsened until she couldn’t walk unassisted.

Her children brought her to receive treatment in Bangkok with Doctor Dittapol Boonampol, who recommended at MRI. The results showed that her spine was fractured and collapsed and blood was seeping out causing the pelvis to collapse. The doctor recommended injecting cement to fix the collapse.

The recommended treatment in younger patients would be installing metal plates and screws to fix the collapsed spine but with an elderly patient already suffering from osteoporosis, the bones would not adhere well to the metal plates and screws and they may fall off leading to many months of recuperation.

Following the treatment, the patient was able to stand and walk unassisted without any pain.
