“Pain radiates down to the foot, with my left foot starting to become numb. Taking a shower, stepping on a piece of soap, I don’t feel it anymore. It’s difficult to lift my leg off the bed. Can’t live a normal life without surgery.” – Ms. Melada

Experience of treating spinal nerve impingement by Ms. Melada

Ms. Melada, a 48-year-old civil servant, underwent treatment for spinal nerve impingement through Percutaneous Stenoscopic Lumbar Decompression (PSLD) surgery. The cause of her condition was an accident where she slipped and hit her tailbone on the floor. Initially, she didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just a regular muscle ache. However, the pain persisted and worsened over time, eventually reaching the point where her toes became numb and tingling.

• Back pain radiating down the leg
• Endoscopic surgery for herniated disc using PSLD technique
• Weight-bearing MRI for identifying the cause of back pain

Nurse: How did you feel when the doctor reviewed your MRI results and confirmed it was spinal nerve impingement?

Ms. Melada: I was shocked. I never expected that a simple fall could lead to the inner cushioning disc breaking and pressing on the nerve, causing pain that radiates all the way down to my toes. It has significantly affected my daily life, especially walking.

Nurse: How do you feel about the recommended surgery?

Ms. Melada: I’m scared because I have no knowledge about the spine or spinal bones. It’s something fragile for me. I have various concerns, like the size of the incision, the long recovery time and the fear of not being able to walk again because of past experiences.

Coincidentally, I met someone I knew who told me that there are new surgical techniques nowadays that are not as scary as before. Combined with detailed explanations from the doctors, it increased my confidence, so I decided to undergo treatment.

Nurse: Why did you choose to receive treatment at S-Spine and Nerve Hospital?

Ms. Melada: As someone who pays attention to details, I thought that if I were to undergo surgery, I would choose the best option for myself. So, I searched for information on the internet about the top-ranked hospitals specializing in spine treatment. One of them was S-Spine and Nerve Hospital, which ranked first. I read more information and it further increased my confidence.

Then, I compared the healthcare costs of each hospital and found that they were similar. However, what stood out here was the advanced treatment technology, particularly the endoscopic surgery. The incision is small, only about 0.5 centimeters, and there is no need for a large incision like in the past. This made me even more confident that with this type of surgery, the treatment would be faster, and I would be able to walk normally again. This seemed to be the best option.

Nurse: How did you feel the moment you left the operating room?

Ms. Melada: The first feeling I had after waking up from the treatment was that I could get up by myself and walk to the bathroom normally as if I hadn’t undergone surgery. It was better than I had anticipated. Initially, I thought the pain after the surgery would be intense, but the pain from the incision was almost non-existent.

Thank you for sharing your treatment experience at S-Spine, a specialized hospital in spine and nervous system care, Ms. Melada. We hope that it will be beneficial to all the readers.
